Chip Handling Methods and Impacts, 2002 Fall Technical Conference

Chip handling in pulp mills has a significant affect on the cost of operations. Wood fiber, the highest cost component in pulp production, may be lost or damaged due to improper storage and reclaim methods. Various factors determine the proper method to be selected, and may include the pulping process, production capacity, fiber sources, total installed cost and location in the mill. This study reviews how these factors affect the selection process for storage reclaim systems, updates worldwide trends and available technology, and identifies cost impacts associated with improper chip handling.
