Operational Performance of Billerud Gruvon’s New Recovery Boiler with Environmental Friendly Solutions, 2002 Fall Technical Conference

This paper presents the design and performance of Billerud Gruvön’s new 2500 tDS/day (5.5 MMlbs DS/day) recovery boiler, T5, with environmentally friendly solutions. The topics include an overview of the boiler design, performance and emissions with varying boiler loads and relatively low black liquor dry solids content. Of particular interest is the influence of air staging on boiler NOX -emissions, since the boiler is equipped with a quaternary air level. The results show a clear decrease in NOX emissions by increasing the share of tertiary and quaternary air of the total air. Furthermore the incineration of dissolving and mix tank vent gases in the recovery boiler is presented.
