LMS Biobleaching Studies, 2002 Fall Technical Conference

The biobleaching effects of laccase mediator systems (LMS) with violuric acid (VA) were explored with a high lignin content SW kraft pulp (kappa # 50.0). A LMSVA(E) treatment of this high kappa pulp typically yielded 35% delignification under the conditions employed in this study. The effects of adding assorted nonprocess elements and black liquor carryover were shown to have little impact on the overall effectiveness of an LMSVA(E), whereas elevated pH and temperature were shown to detrimentally impact the performance of the biobleaching stage.
