Papermaking with Arundo Donax, 2002 Fall Technical Conference

Bleached Arundo donax kraft pulp was used in the manufacture of newsprint and alkaline fine paper on a pilot paper machine. Low percentage blends of Arundo pulp were mixed with thermomechanical pulp and deinked newsprint to manufacture 48 g/m^2 newsprint. Arundo pulp was blended with bleached Northern Canadian softwood kraft pulp over a range of percentages to make 75 g/m^2 alkaline fine paper. Paper properties are presented showing improvements in both grades with Arundo donax pulp in the furnish.
