There are several types of chemical additives that can be applied to chemical pulp digestion to enhance the
performance of the process beyond that possible with the standard cooking chemicals of the various processes. Basic
classes of these are types that enhance the efficiency of the current process such as penetrants and deresinators and
those that participate chemically in the reactions such as anthraquinone or polysulfide. A discussion of the most
common of these types is given below.
