Since the beginning of the 80s, two types of pulper are commonly implemented in industrial deinking plant: Helico and Drum pulper because of their better behaviour compared to low consistency pulpers. However, there is no persuasive comparison between them in the literature for the moment expected benchmarking. The purpose of this study was thus dedicated to the influence of pulper type coupled with neutral or conventional deinking chemistry for different pulping consistency in pilot scale. These pulping conditions covered the most common deinking conditions. Besides, this paper will gives useful information as all the trials were performed with the same recovered paper (ONP/OMG). The comparison was performed in terms of ink detachment, ink fragmentation, speck contamination and ink removal by flotation. It was then possible to emphasize the advantages and disadvantages of such conventional pulper.
