Crosslinking of Acid-Functional Styrenic Block Polymers with Aluminum Acetylacetonate, 2001 Hot Melt Symposium Proceedings

D. J. St. Clair--Adhesives and sealants based on styrenic block copolymers have limited upper service temperature. This paper shows that service temperature can be improved for adhesives based on an acid / anhydride functionalized polystyrene - hydrogenated polybutadiene - polystyrene block copolymer by addition of aluminum acetylacetonate to crosslink the polymer. Examples are shown of pressure sensitive adhesives, sealants, modified waxes, modified asphalt and oil gels which have improved upper service temperature.
