Statistical Process Control (SPC): Applications and Philosophy at Shell Chemical Company, 1992 Hot Melt Symposium Proceedings

In this paper, statistical process control (SPC) techniques are discussed. In particular, the preferred philosophy for applying SPC in the chemical industry for manufacturing styrenic block copolymers is examined. Examples of practical applications of SPC based on this philosophical approach include SPC methods, a deeper understanding of statistical methods such as exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) charts and process capability indices (Cpk) and extension of these statistical methods to design of experiments and regression analysis.
