Recent Advances in Crosslinkable Hot Melt Adhesives, 1992 Hot Melt Symposium Proceedings

Crosslinkable polyurethane hot melt adhesives have recently received the success in the marketplace due to their heat and solvent resistance properties, in addition to well accepted features such as adhesion to a variety of substrates and excellent impact resistance. However, certain limitations have restricted their widespread acceptance, particularly in applications requiring combinations of processing and performance characteristics. We have designed a series of polyurethane reactive (PUR) hot melt adhesives with unique combinations of desired properties such as fast setting speeds, low viscosity, good flexibility, and thermal and UV stability. The need for faster moisture curing, or crosslinking, has been achieved with polymer design and catalysts. The advantages of crosslinking have also been imparted in other hot melt adhesives through the functionalization of conventional hot melts with new technology.

Technical details including properties, features and utilization in various types of applications will be discussed in this presentation.
