Breakthrough in Hydrogenated Styrenic Block Polymers for Adhesives, 1994 Hot Melt Symposium Proceedings
G. R. Himes, E. M. Loveday
New molecular architectures in the family of hydrogenated styrenic block polymers combine outstanding weatherability and heat stability, normally associated with saturated polymers, with the good tack and peel behavior more typical of SIS block polymers. The new polymers impart optimal properties over a broad range of adhesive compositions, giving the formulator wide latitude in cost/performance. The new structures exhibit unusually low viscosity’s in the melt, which are maintained over long storage times at high temperatures. Thus, for the first time styrenic TPE base polymers provide simultaneously high tack (including aggressive finger tack), good peel strength, creep resistance under shear, weatherability, heat stability and low viscosity.
