New chemistry for the modification of styrenebetadiene thermoplastic elastomers has been discovered over the last few years. This study was begun to investigate the application of this technology to TPE for adhesives applications.
It was discovered that vinyl modification in the range of 30% to 50% provides a remarkable reduction in adhesive viscosity and increase in tensile in certain hot melt adhesive formulations. This is accomplished without degradation of other properties as is shown by comparison to Stereon 840A.
