Adhesive Properties of Ethylene-Vinyl Silane (EVS) and Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate-Vinyl Silane (EVAVS) Moisture Cross-Linkable Polymers, 1994 Hot Melt Symposium Proceedings

A. M. Henderson

The silane-containing EVS and EVAVS polymers had greater adhesion to high surface energy substrates such as glass, aluminum, clay coated board, and steel than corresponding LDPE and EVA grades of polymer. EVS and EVAVS adhesion to glass and aluminum, which have inorganic hydroxyl groups available for reaction with silane, exceeded that of a maleic anhydride grafted EVA. The higher the silane content of the polymer the greater the adhesion. EVS and EVAVS adhesion to lower surface energy substrates such as polycarbonate (Lexan „µ GE) and polyethylene terphthalate (Mylar „µ, DuPont) was not improved compared to LDPE and EVA.
