Comparative Volatility and Thermal Stability of a Hot Melt Pressure Sensitive Adhesive Compounded with White Mineral Oil or Process Oil, 1995 Hot Melt Symposium Proceedings

Hot Melt Pressure Sensitive Adhesives are typically applied in the temperature range of 175°C. The choice of oil can affect both the high temperature volatility and stability of a representative formulation. Highly refined white oil can be used where long term stability or high temperature properties are critical An iso-thermal TGA technique is used to compare the relative volatility and OIT by DSC compares the relative thermal stability of an adhesive formulation compounded with either process oil, white oil or low volatility white oil.
