Acrylic dispersions are made by emulsion polymerization (Figure 1). In this process, water insoluble monomers together with surfactants are emulsified in water. Polymerization is started by adding a water soluble initiator, and at the end a milky white fluid is obtained which has certain special characteristics (Figure 2)...
...These dispersions are free of organic solvents. This means that the dispersions are environmentally friendly because no solvents are emitted during the end use of the products. They also contribute to improved working conditions for the same reason; fire insurance rates can be lower because of reduced risks.
