The need for smaller companies to register their quality management systems to the IS0 9000 Standards is becoming more important as their customers discover its value in selecting suppliers. Management’s direct participation in the process combined with good preparation, training and employee involvement significantly facilitates the changes which IS0 9000 brings. Setting realistic goals and assigning adequate resources are important keys to a successful registration effort. The Standard must be correctly interpreted relative to the uniqueness of a company’s operations in order to achieve efficiency and effectiveness in the documentation process. The document control required of IS0 9000 gives stability to the system and the internal auditing process ensures continuing compliance.
