New Product Notification in the Chemical Industry - A Global Perspective, 1996 Hot Melt Symposium Proceedings
The development, marketing, and sales of a new chemical product for use worldwide is a lengthy and complex process requiring among other things, that numerous governmental regulatory agencies be notified of the manufacture or import of the product. The purpose of a registration or notification scheme is to undertake an a priori assessment of the potential physical, health, and environmental risks that might be associated with the production, transport, normal use, and disposal of the chemical. In this way, measures aimed at managing risks to the worker, distributor, consumer, and public may be implemented prior to marketplace introduction. An overview of the notification process, the financial and technical requirements and management decision issues encountered during the process will be presented using recent examples.
