New Developments Concerning the Light Stabilization of Hot Melt Adhesives, 1996 Hot Melt Symposium Proceedings
There are many product uses for Hot Melt Adhesives (HMA’s) which require light stability. During their end-use, the hydrocarbon components of a HMA are susceptible to ultraviolet light induced oxidation resulting in discoloration and loss of properties. The resistance of hot melt adhesives to UV-induced degradation can be improved by the addition of light stabilizers to the formulation. Light stabilizers, such as UV absorbers (UVA’s) and Hindered Amines (HALS) have been successfully used in HMA applications. This paper examines the use of traditional as well as new high performance light stabilizer chemistries in the enhancement of the UV stability of HMA’s.
