Continuos Processing of Hot Melt Adhesives on Co-Rotating Twin Screw Extruders, 1996 Hot Melt Symposium Proceedings
As industry takes a closer look at operating expenses and quality control, the continuous processing of hot melt and pressure sensitive adhesives is proving to be a more effective means of producing hot melt products as compared to batch processing. Also, the twin screw extruder offers an opportunity for the development of new products which could not be produced before. Hot melt adhesive formulations vary widely in composition and application and the evaluation process of which production system best satisfies the manufacturing requirements is a difficult one. The criteria affecting these decisions are numerous and include initial capital investment, production requirements, formulation variability, quality specifications, operating costs, and others. The culmination of these factors leads to the key parameter which is cost per pound of product and recovery time on capital investment.
