H.B. Fuller Company is introducing pelletized hot melt pressure sensitive adhesives (HMPSAs), the newest form of HMPSAs available. HMPSAs in this form offer improved heat resistance and shear properties over conventional HMPSAs which require the use of viscosity reducing components for application. Due to their short residence time in the application equipment, pelletized HMPSAs are subject to minimal thermal degradation during application as compared to conventional high-viscosity HMPSAs. They are environmentally friendly because they involve no solvent for delivery and minimize waste. Pelletized HMPSA will offer increased production rates over current solvent-coating systems, especially for thick films. Cost savings can also be realized from ease of handling. There are several developmental products available in this family of pelletized HMPSAs with various levels of tack and heat resistance.
