Practical Experiences From Very High Dry Solids Concentrator, 2004 International Chemical Recovery Conference
This paper discusses the practical experiences gained from a very high dry solids concentrator system installed in
Botnia Joutseno mill in Joutseno, Finland. The unit is designed for 3 500 t/day virgin d.s. throughput, +80% as-fired
dry solids, and is equipped with pressurized black liquor storage. The concentrator has been operational since May
2001.
Various aspects of the actual plant operation is discussed, as well as issues related to viscosity reduction, corrosion
and materials selection, fouling, methanol generation and sulfur release into the NCG gases during high solids, high
temperature operation..
