Twenty years have been passed since high pressure and temperature recovery boilers were applied in effective energy utilization in pulp mills. In addition to energy saving, reducing of CO2 emissions are great concerns in Japanese pulp and paper industry nowadays. After starting of commercial operation of the high pressure and temperature recovery boiler, some additional new technologies were developed and applied for reliable operation. This paper reports how high pressure and temperature recovery boilers were developed and operated, and what kind of additional new developments were done these twenty years and applied for the second generation high pressure and temperature recovery boiler.
