Analytical Methods for Determination of Metals, Silicon, and Phosphorous in Kraft Mill Samples, 1998 International Chemical Recovery Conference Proceedings

Methods of determination of a number of commonly occuring metals in pulp mill samples were developed. The methods cover the most important materials circulating in the mill and leaving the mill as wastes. They are intended for closure studies, trouble-shooting and development tasks. Decomposition procedures for 14 sample types are described, for the determination of 12 - 15 metals and other elements. The different methods comprise mainly the same metals, in order to be useful for in particular balance studies. The measurements are carried out by inductively coupled plasma emission spectroscopy or, alternatively, by atomic absorption spectroscopy. Particular attention is paid to errors caused by sample matrix effects, and measures are described to deal with them. Results of some typical analyses are given.
