Oxidative Heat Treatment for Increasing Recovery Boiler Capacity: Concept and Initial In-Mill Pilot Evauation, 1998 International Chemical Recovery Conference Proceedings

The most cited limitation on pulp mill production is the capacity of the recovery system to process black liquor. The ability to process the liquor through recovery can be restricted by excessive fouling of the boiler heat transfer surfaces, the safe steaming limit of the boiler or constraints in the evaporator system. A concept is presented which will provide additional liquor processing capacity by lowering the fouling rate, decreasing the heat value of the liquor and providing evaporation energy. Laboratory and pilot scale mill data confirm the viability of the process.
