High-Level Control of the Lime Kiln and the Causticizing Process, 1998 International Chemical Recovery Conference Proceedings
This paper presents a practical application of a high-level control system, so called expert system, for the recovery process in pulp production. The inputs to the fuzzy logic based expert system, FuzzyExpert, are the values of relevant measurements in the process, the expert system then evaluates the information available and by means of fuzzy logic algorithms it calculates the ideal set-points for the control of the three sub-processes lime sludge reburning kiln, slaker, and causticizer,. Through frequent, small adjustments defined by the priority management the expert system aims at keeping the process at its optimum and attain a correct stable lime quality, optimise production span, and reduce fuel consumption at all time. In this paper the control strategy from STORA Skoghall, Sweden, is presented and the results from this application shows among other things 50% reduction in make-up lime, 64% reduction in the variation of residual carbonate.
