Green Liquor Filtration at Aracruz Celulose Mill: Causticizing and Effluent Close-up, Pilot Plant and Practical Results, 1998 International Chemical Recovery Conference Proceedings

Aracruz Celulose (Brazil) carried out a project to increase the pulp production capacity to 1.24 million tons of bleached eucalyptus pulp per year, including a new causticizing plant (8, 100m 3 /day) by using both green and white liquor filtration technology. The main recausticizing project goals were to produce a high quality white liquor and the maximum removal of inerts, heavy metals and non process elements from the pulping and recovery systems. In addition to the operational benefits to the causticizing process, the decision to install green liquor filtration, aimed, the preparation of the chemical recovery cycle to the effluent close-up. This paper presents all steps of this project: concepts, pilot plant and practical results from the start-up in June 97.
