My TAPPI Story: McKenna Goulette
Generally adhesive property of recovery boiler ash is said to be influenced by K and Cl concentrations. Tran suggests Sticky Temperature as the index which evaluates influence of K and Cl. We examined sintering temperature, initial melting temperature, 10% shrinkage rate temperature, blow test, ash adhesive force test as original characterization index, and confirmed that correlation between sintering temperature and 10% shrinkage rate temperature and ash adhesive force test was high. Adhesive force between ash particle can be measured by ash adhesive force test directly, so adhesive property of ash can be compared more quantitatively.
On the other hand, adhesive property of ash is improved by decreasing K and Cl in ash. So we developed the potassium removal equipment which removes K and Cl from ash collected with EP (electric precipitator) simultaneously. And we improved adhesive property of ash by adopting this potassium removal equipment, and we prevented ash adhesion trouble, and the long term continuation operation of recovery boiler became possible.
