Incinerating NCG/HCVL in a Recovery Boiler Without Auxiliary Fuel, 1998 International Chemical Recovery Conference Proceedings
A kraft recovery boiler is potentially an excellent place for burning high-concentration-low-volume non-condensable gases (NCG/HCLV) because of its ability to capture and recover sulphur compounds. A system has been developed at CELPAV in Luiz Antonio to burn HCLV/NCG directly in the recovery boiler. The application of this new concept is facilitated by the use of a methanol column which operates with low gas volumes and temperatures. After one year of operation the results show that the burning of NCG/HCLV in the recovery boiler is a safe, low-cost process which is both simple and easy to operate. Improvement of lime kiln operation and lowered gaseous emissions from the mill are additional advantages of the process.
