Millar Western Pulp Ltd. is the world’s largest CTMP producer of Aspen Alkaline Peroxide Pulp (APP) and will be the largest CTMP producer in the world by the summer of 1992. Millar Western believes that a high quality chemical Aspen APP/CTMP is a viable alternative to conventional short fibre chemical pulp, and the market is accepting this product. In the spring of 1992 Millar Western will start up its new mill in Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan, which from day one will operate as a zero effluent discharge facility. Millar Western will continue to be innovative in process, management and product development, and focus on the needs of its customers and the company’s responsibility to protect the environment. The environmental impact of pulp production facilities has become an important consideration for many pulp buyers when they evaluate purchase options. Members of the pulp industry must realize that society’s concern for environmental protection is not a passing trend, and look upon environmental issues as a production and marketing opportunity rather than a threat.
