In this paper we are presenting how to monitor TMP pulp quality using SPC (statistical process control). On-line quality observation monitors two on-line quality measurements, freeness and fiber length. Monitoring is based on two different SPC procedures and their fuzzy combination. The degree of warning is defined by quality observer and if this value exceeds the given warning limit the warning is published and a trend display is invoked. The trend display is an important tool that can help an operator to make a better judgment how to control the process.
