Optimization of Two-Stage Oxygen Delignification and its Activation, 1996 International Pulp Bleaching Conference Proceedings

The process conditions for two-stage oxygen delignification (00) of softwood kraft pulp with kappa numbers 20 and 30 were optimized in terms of alkali charge, temperature and reaction time for both stages. The chemical charge, reaction time and initial pH for an intermediate treatment involving peroxymonosulfuric acid (Caro’s acid, Caa) and peroxyacetic acid (Paa) were also optimized. The effects of intermediate treatment (x) with Caa, Paa and ozone (Z) in 0x0 sequences were evaluated in terms of delignification efficiency and selec-tivity. Finally, the optical and papermaking properties of the 0x0 based TCF bleached pulp were compared with those of the corresponding ECF pulp.
