Non-Governmental Organizations (primarily environmental organizations) have been actively involved in the development of Life Cycle Assessment to a greater degree than is generally the case for other analytical methods used in environmental protection. This involvement reflects a developing role that NGOs view themselves as undertaking with respect to industry and consumers. It also reflects the distinctive characteristics of LCA as a conceptual approach to environmental analysis.
