Modo’s Experiences in Closed Loop Bleaching, 1996 Minimum Effluent Mills Symposium Proceedings

Today, MoDo has produced well above 1 million tonnes of pulp using Closed Loop Bleaching sequences in the Domsjö sodium based sulfite mill and in the Husum kraft mill. A common feature is that the pulp washing is performed strictly counter-current, which means that only moderate investments have been required. In the kraft pulp bleaching, a certain amount of chlorine dioxide ensures a high pulp quality and a cost for wood and chemicals that is significantly lower as compared to totally chlorine-free seqences. In a holistic perspective, this means that Closed Loop Bleaching can be made a good environmental choice.
