Unique Coating Kitchen: A Big Step in Future Coating Color Preparation, 2002 Metered Size Press Forum

In September 2000, at Perlen Papier - Switzerland, a new continuous coating plant went into operation. The system serves a new LWC- Papermachine, supplied by Voith Paper, with an online Speed Coater.

The coating kitchen was built and installed by BVG – Germany. It is of brand new design, which was not existing before in the paper industry. Even it was a ”prototype”, the system started very well. After 1 ½ year of operation, there is enough experience, to say, it is a big step in future coating colour preparation.

The presentation shows a detailed description of the plant, with handling of raw materials, metering of components, mixing and “plug flow” dispersion, storage, feed and application on the Speed Coater. Introduced will be technical, technological and economical aspects of the plant, also in relation to batch systems.

The outstanding performance of the new kitchen, in respect of reliability, quality of coating color, quality of paper and cost savings was a real surprise for all people involved in this project.
