Available Options for Mass Production of High-Grade Ink-Jet Papers, 2002 Metered Size Press Forum

Technologists with a thorough understanding of the factors influencing the production of high-quality ink-jet prints have been able to create a category of novel special starches.

These products may be tailored to specific applications, i.e. for use as surface sizes, or as binders in pigmentized coating colors.

By combining them with PCC having a high specific surface, papermakers will be able to design formulations for a broad range of novel, matt ink-jet papers. For this purpose, appropriate base paper grades and suitable application techniques will have to be selected. This novel pigment/binder combination will make it possible for the paper industry to satisfy exacting quality demands at low cost.
