Multi-Ply Web Structure and Performance, 1998 Multi-Ply Forming Forum Proceedings

Many of the properties required of a multiply web will be the same as those required for normal single ply grades. These include surface characteristics, porosity and physical strength properties. Some characteristics, however, relate particularly to multiply structures. Multiply forming provides increased flexibility and versatility in the process enabling a wide range of novel and innovative products to be developed. This can be achieved through:

- improved fibre economy through selected distribution of fibre types through the web

- the production of webs with unproved characteristics through the use of the most suitable furnish for the individual layers

- the production of heterogeneous webs manufactured from a range of fibre types with a range of forming technologies.
