New Multi-Ply Board Former (MH-B Former), 1998 Multi-Ply Forming Forum Proceedings

Generally, available multi-ply formers are not totally satisfactory to the needs of the papermakers due to its low forming capacity per unit, inadequate quality levels, and/or excessive capital costs. In order to overcome the shortcomings of the conventional multi-ply formers, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries LTD and Beloit Corporation have developed a new multi-ply board former [MH-B Former].

The MH-B Former utilizes three unique concepts which consist of the ACDEFLO flow path, enhanced pulse forming between two fabrics (felt and wire), and wet on semi-dry forming. Commercial experiences have shown this former to have merits including easy operation, wide range high forming capacity, and excellent board properties (strength, formation, smoothness, fiber orientation and basis weight profile). The new former provides an advantage in low capital costs and low running costs as a result of the high forming capacity and the compact design.
