Properties of Hydrogen Peroxide Bleached Viscose Rayon Fibres, 1991 Nonwovens Conference Proceedings
This paper presents the influence of a hydrogen peroxide bleaching on the brightness and purity and on the level of organic chlorine compounds in viscose rayon fibres.
The raw material for the viscose fibres in the peroxide bleaching trials was pulp bleached either with chlorine dioxide or with hydrogen peroxide. The control fibre was a conventional viscose fibre bleached with hypochlorite and produced from a pulp bleached with chlorine chemicals.
The brightness was measured as the remission percentage. The purity tests were carried out according to the European Pharmacopoeia. The presence of organic chlorine compounds was measured by coulometry or by neutron activation. The manufacturing method of both fibre and pulp had a clear effect on the quantity of such compounds in the fibre. Analysis of dioxins and furanes in the fibre (PCDD/PCDF) was by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry (HRGC/HRMS). All fibre samples were in the NTEQ range for "dioxin-free pulp". The level required for "food and pharmaceutical grade dioxin-free"
