Use of Specialty Cellulose Fibers and Modified Cellulose Fibers in Nonwovens, 1991 Nonwovens Conference Proceedings
In today’s world of nonwoven opportunities, the needs and requirements of a web are continually becoming more specialized. These specialized needs have created tremendous growth in the materials and technologies used to manufacture nonwovens. Much of the publicity of growth and developments in materials have primarily been focused on synthetic polymer fibers and binder systems; however, much work and diversification has also taken place with cellulose as a nonwoven fiber.
This study was done to characterize some of the currently available commercial specialty cellulose fibers and to examine their usefulness in wet-laid nonwovens. Samples of each of the subject fibers were assembled and then specific tests were done to further classify these fibers. Secondly, the fibers were incorporated into a nonwoven product to investigate their affects on nonwoven performance.
