Development of a New Carbonaceous Fiber and its Uses in Non-woven Battings, 1993 Nonwovens Conference Proceedings

Roy M. Broughton, David M. Hall, Paul Brady and Francis P. McCullough

A new carbonaceous fiber is described. The fiber is crimped, giving it higher elongation (than typical carbon fibers) under tensile loading, and providing better processing on normal textile manufacturing equipment. With appropriate bonding, resilient, ignition resistant, high-loft battings can be prepared, having good thermal insulative properties.
