Two Dimensional Temperature Profile Model for Nonwovens, 1993 Nonwovens Conference Proceedings
D. M. Shrenk, R. F. Janis
A two dimensional heat transfer model was developed to simulate thermal bonding of a nonwoven sheet structure. The model can accommodate dividing the thickness of the sheet into imaginary layers of different thicknesses so that very thin layers are possible near the surface to obtain an accurate estimate of the sheet profile and surface temperatures. The model computes sheet temperature through the thickness as the nonwoven sheet passes through radiant, convective, or conductive heat transfer zones specified by the user.
The model prediction of nonwoven sheet temperature as a function of time allows for many alternative equipment concepts to be evaluated quickly. The
relationship between sheet properties and thermal history have been experimentally confirmed.
