Recent Sensor Developments Improve Nonwovens Basis Weight Measurements, 1993 Nonwovens Conference Proceedings
Paul Boeckerman, Dr. Phil Hegland
With pressures to reduce costs while improving quality, rollgoods producers are seeking state-of-the art tools to stay competitive. Basis weight measurement, as an βon-line quality lab,β is rapidly becoming a key technology for the nonwovens industry.
This paper describes recent sensor design developments that improve support for on-line lab duties. Stronger signal-to-noise performance allows faster scanning, with better profile resolution. Incremental improvements in other design areas reduce sensitivity to environmental factors while increasing reliability.
