Melamine-Formaldehyde Resins, 1994 Nonwovens Conference Proceedings
Kirk Edwards, George Andrea
A brief discussion of melamine-formaldehyde resin chemistry is presented. The ability of these resins to crosslink various polymers and self-condense makes them essential in certain nonwoven applications. The molecular weight distribution, amount of bound formaldehyde and the amount and type of bound alcohol determine the characteristics and performance of the resin. By introducing melamine-formaldehyde resins into appropriate polymer systems, the solvent resistance, dimensional stability and durability of nonwovens can be enhanced.
