Method to Measure Ink Jet Wicking Properties Using a Document Scanner and PC, 1996 New Printing Technologies Symposium Proceedings
Roy Rosenberger--An earlier ink jet test method was field tested to determine its sensitivity to process change. The evaluation found the low measurement threshold used was not sensitive to certain wicking properties, in particular those associated with fibers protruding from the paper surface, black ink optical density, and fiber orientation effects. This paper describes the effect increased sensitivity gained by higher thresholds and the use of overall image analysis statistical software with different patterns designed to evaluate these additional properties. The effects of scanner bulb warming, sheet opacity and a weight on the scanner lid are also evaluated.
