My TAPPI Story: Naomi Gehling
Certain properties of wax emulsions were modified by the use of wax emulsion additives. The effects that varying the particle size of the wax emulsion has on the final properties of latexes used for non-woven fabrics were investigated. The particle size of the wax emulsions varied from less than 0.2 micron to greater than 1 micron, while maintaining the composition of the additive. The wax emulsions were incorporated into a soft acrylic latex, which was then evaluated for several performance characteristics. The effects on end-use properties (coefficient of friction, anti-block characteristics, water resistance, and wetting characteristics) of the dried latex film were measured for each particle-size range.
