Effect of Process Parameters on Glass Paper Properties, 1992 Nonwovens Conference Proceedings
The art of papermaking challenges the maker with myriad process variables and parameters which greatly affect the product’s structure and properties. The objective of this study is to relate key processing and formation parameters to the end product.
Specifically, one should be able to predict and control the paper product after knowing the contribution of formation pH and drying temperature. Utilizing optical handsheet images, a quantification of index of formation has been developed. This index is an objective measurement of the uniformity of dispersion. Addi- tionally, the index is compared to trends of tensile strength and elongation as formation pH and drying temperature are varied.
