Introduction - International standards of quality management are quickly winning the attentions of industrial consumers and manufacturers the world over. A new economic pressure - the demand for quality- is facing suppliers who risk integrity by ignoring the issue. Companies are forced to invest in total quality management (TQM) systems, and seek the return through selling the expanded and improved production and service products resulting from implementation of quality management. While many companies find the implementation tremendously beneficial in defining the particulars of their processes, one area of common frustrations is calibration. Although most have had calibration procedures in place well before deciding to pursue IS0 9000, the intricacy and stringent nature of Section 4.11 of the IS0 9000 series often leaves companies scrambling to be in compliance as their audit approaches.
