The movement towards environmentally friendly nonwovens is increasing due to legislation, economics, and customer demand. To capitalize on this trend, manufacturers must offer nonwoven goods which may be recyclable, repulpable, compostable, and/or biodegradable. Several binders are currently available which provide the required performance properties yet offer these characteristics besides to the nonwoven roll goods. Some examples of test procedures, products, applications, results, and limitations are discussed.
