Modeling of the Next Generation of Melt Blowing, 1995 Nonwovens Conference Proceedings

A rigorous, broadly-applicable model for melt blowing would facilitate the optimization of existing melt blowing processes and would suggest valuable changes in melt blowing equipment. Such a model is now available. This model can predict fiber diameter along the threadline, final fiber diameter, stress along the threadline, cohesive fracture (fiber breakup), temperature along the threadline, and the amplitude of the fiber vibration. This mathematical model can be used in close conjunction with actual melt blowing experiments. In this manner, we can rapidly select optimum operating conditions for existing melt blowing systems. Furthermore, the model can suggest totally novel melt blowing configurations.
