Cross-Linked Fibers for Papermaking Applications, 1995 Nonwovens Conference Proceedings

Cross-linking technology has recently been applied to pulp fibers resulting in a unique family of specialty pulps. These fibers have the ability to open up any pulp furnish, allowing much faster drainage, higher bulk and higher porosity. The fibers are currently used in filter grades, absorbent products, saturating grades, tissue/towel and a number of specialty applications. Although the fiber is generally used in small proporations, as an additive, the impact on a furnish can be significant. The use of cross-linked fibers allows for the creation of previously unattainable properties, and increased flexibility in the design of new products.
