There have been significant advances in recent years in methods to improve kier bleached cotton for use in nonwoven roll goods. One of the most important of these has been the development of the air-doffing process for opening and cleaning cotton. This is a mechanical process using specially designed and modified textile processing equipment. Studies thus far indicate the equipment and method described to be far superior to conventional methods in opening the fiber and particularly in the removal of non-lint material at high production rates without Causing fiber damage. This paper will describe the technology and equipment used, and the benefits in relation to the use of bleached cotton in nonwoven roll goods. A summary of end use applications is also discussed.
